51Talk Overview
About 51Talk
Founded by Jack Huang in 2011, 51Talk began as a platform connecting Filipino teachers with Chinese students under 12 for conversational English lessons. Huang emphasized that Filipino teachers, with their strong English proficiency and friendly demeanor, were "perfect" for the role.
Today, 51Talk has evolved significantly, hosting over 100 million classes and expanding its network of teachers to include those from the USA, Canada, and the Philippines. The platform now serves students in more than 50 countries and regions, reaching over 40 million users.
The company’s offerings have grown to include one-on-one classes and group lessons through the HAWO online education platform. 51Talk even made headlines by going public on the New York Stock Exchange in 2016, though it was delisted in May 2023. Partnerships with Highlights, Oxford University Press, Pearson, Cambridge University Press, and the American International School of Utah further underscore its influence.
Mission
51Talk strives to empower children to learn while aiming to be recognized as a "highly respectable online education platform for centuries."
