The Foreign Language Institute is part of the larger ECC Group, which provides educational services to students of all ages via several specialized divisions. ECC is currently looking for more qualified English teachers to join their team in Japan.


About the position

  • Location: Japan

  • Scope: Full-time

  • Contract length: Contracts are aligned to finish with their academic year at the end of March and are eligible for renewal. They ask for a commitment of at least 12 months in Japan and completion of the contract year. Some stay for just a contract, but most happily spend a few years and many others make it a career.

  • Start date: ECC has potential start dates year-round

  • Students: Their students range from pre-school age to retirees. They come with a wide range of backgrounds, study goals, and interests.

  • Classes: They offer a wide range of courses to suit all ages and levels. Young learner class sizes are small, up to ten students, and adult classes may have as many as twelve students.

  • Teaching schedule: Most classes are taught afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Adult classes typically range from 40 to 80 minutes in length and young learner classes are 30 to 60 minutes in length.

Requirements

To qualify for a position at ECC, you need to be able to meet the following conditions:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized institution

  • Native speaker of English (grade 1 through completion of high school conducted with English as the main language of instruction)

  • Valid passport from an English-speaking country or the ability to obtain one

  • Able to attend a 1-day recruiting session

  • Able to begin work in Japan sometime within the next 3-12 months

  • Able to commit to at least one contract year of employment

  • Sufficient funds available for relocating to Japan (ECC recommends having at least 200 000 yen available)
